I am writing about my home town and some fascinating details about my Temple.
Mogappair (or) Mugappair is a fast-developing residential neighborhood in western Chennai, India. This suburb located west of the Jawaharlal Nehru Road (Inner Ring Road) is part of the Ambattur Municipality. There are industrial estates to the north and west namely Padi, Mannurpet and Ambattur.
The temple is the focus for all aspects of everyday life in the Hindu community - religious, cultural, educational and social. The temple is also the place where one can transcend the world of man.
It was thought that by building a temple the patron would always have peace, wealth, grain and sons.
Building a Temple and maintaining the Temple what we build, whether physically or spiritually. That is not an easy task.
Shri Arunachalam Mudaliar, the pioneer and the founder of Santhana Srinivasa Perumal Temple at Mogappair (Chennai) was the first Person to have thought about this and constructed the temple approximately 167 years before. The Lord Santhana Srinivasa Perumal himself identified about his existence under neath the land through dream experience by Shri Arunachalam Mudaliar. Immediately he dug his patta land and found the present divine idol(Santhana Srinivasa Perumal). He only installed the divine idol(Santhana Srinivasa Perumal) and also constructed a small temple with rock stones.
Sri Santhana Srinivasa Perumal Temple is located at Mogappair Chennai. Mogappair was once Maga-p-peru (meaning "blessed with child"). This name derived from the belief that the deity Shri Santhana Srinivasa Perumal granted the blessing of parenthood to childless couples. After persistent mispronunciation, the name 'evolved' to its present form (Mogappair). The childless couples visist to this temple and offer their prayers, and it is said that their wishes have come true after the visit to this shrine.
The main deity Santhana Srinivasar is 9.5 feet high. The other idols in the temple are Santhana Lakshmi, Andaal, Veera Bhaktha Aanjaneyar, Garudalwar, Vinayagar, Sastha and Navagraha Sannithanams.
After Shri Arunachalam Mudaliar, his Grand son Shri M.R.Sarangapani alone managed the temple at his own costs and performed all “Nithiya Poojas”. Mr.M.R.Sarangapani alone was in charge of entire affairs of the Temple. Before 1980’s my grand father Shri M.R.Sarangapani was the village (Mogappair in Chennai) munsif (headman). My Grand father Shri M.R.Sarangapani Mudaliar is born as a man of good deeds and my family is purified by constructing a temple to Lord Vishnu in Mugappair. At that time, Mugappair was agricultural village. And now his Sons Shri M.S.Ganesan
and Shri M.S.Venkatesan
are looking after the temple. Tremendous retention, nature love, pooja, sadhana and other qualities were seen in this personality of Shri M.S. Ganesan(My Dad).
Qualified Bhattachariar (A Brahmin priest belonging to the Vaishnavite sect who offers poojas in a Vishnu temple) are also appointed to perform Nithiya Poojas and other allied Poojas regularly. Also did daily offering Prasadhams such as Curd Rice, Tamarind Rice, Sweet Pongal, White Pongal etc.
Brahmotsavams has to be performed in my Temple in the near future.
As long as the collection of bricks of Hari's temple exists, the founder’s family lives gloriously in the region of Vishnu. He becomes pious and adorable in this world and in the next. - Agni Puraanam
Aalayam Thozhuvadhu Saalavum Nandru,’ said the Tamil poet Avvaiyar.
